VDW ..My take..

VDW has always been of interest to me but i could never find the 'missing link' but after reading posts by Race Advisor it dawned on me that i have for all these years been over engineering !!!! So i went back to basics and started again.
In the last 4/5 weeks i have had 19 selections and 15 have won all odds against.
Starting to back them now (prob the kiss of death) and will share on here.

Selection No1
5.25 Epsom Lord Glenaghcastle best price now 11/8 .

If after 20  selections 50% strike rate is not achieved i will stop.

If anyone else has a VDW based method feel free to post your selections on here, but they must be VDW based that way we will see who has the best method..

And if Dad Gary's reading this " the boys never too old for clip round the lug hole" i very rarely post my picks in the thread, kiss of death, but sometimes the reverse psychology theme works, big up 1 you don't want to win, weird, but works for me sometimes.

Re: VDW ..My take..

Yes i didn't think that was NOT one of Ryan Moore's better rides but that's racing.

Selection N02
Thursday 31/8 3.00 Muss  Raselasad  3/1 early.. Only reservation I have is that Tracy Waggott stable is in no sort of form but regular jockey on top ,hopefully will jump out and make all. .

Raselasad does what he was expected to do..won 6/4

early odds 3/1 rule 4 pays 2.7/1

Going forward selections 2 winners 1  50%
sp  out 2pts in 2.5pts  = + .5
early odds out 2pts in 3.70pts = + 1.7

Re: VDW ..My take..

Its OK , found it with a google search. Have heard of Van De Whael but would never have guessed it was the enigmatic Dutchman. If he was dutch that is.
I can now bin my best guesses,
Vastly Down in Weight
Verified Drawn Well
Value Drifters Win
Van Drivers Wink
The last being a theory that if you pass a horsebox on the way to the races you should try for a thumbs up or down from the driver.... has anyone ever tried this?

Re: VDW ..My take..

VDW = Van Der Wheil.. Google the name and you will find a lot of info about him..Race Advisor is quite good..He used to write in to the Racing Handicap Book in the late 70's early 80's .He set the systems page 'on fire' people either loved him or hated him.
His method was form alone will not make you money ..Consistancy + Ability +Class is what gives you regular winners.
I wont give my take on his approach until 20 selections have passed and hopefully at least 10 have won.
There are actually 2 selections today Raselasad and Mystic Theatre 4.45 Bell but that one was 1/2 last night and is now 1/4 so its a no bet for me.

At the end of 20 selections i  will tell you the method as written in the booklets that i have from the 80's and my take on it...Be aware though if you read up because there is 'A MISSING LINK' which was never mentioned by him. and that is most likely the difference between getting 40% winners and the 85% winners that he claimed to get.

I think a long term run of 50% winners at around 2/1 is a fantastic method/system and that is what i am aiming for..As I said if i can achieve that by 20 selections then lets open the flood gates and anyone can chip in with constructive comments and theories to improve it.....

Re: VDW ..My take..

Good luck Hovis and thanks dearremus...Nothing today, nearly a class 6 selection but Class 5&6 would be totally against VDW principals so will just keep an eye on them.

3 winners two placed and Helfire ran out of room near finish. Thanks a lot hovis. , ! 0

Re: VDW ..My take..

Good luck with tomorrows selection pendil.

Gordon Halls (VDW) selections were all aftertimed and much of the reasoning behind those selections was taken from previous authors.
That's not to suggest that it doesn't work though,it certainly stirred up a lot of interest and still does.

good luck pendil i am not sure what part if any hovis uses of the vdw system would be interesting to know
You have a twist on the vdw fair enough but was his thoughts to back non handicap races using his methods on the best race on a card i have the system on my data base not sure it would of thrown up five selections in one meeting but thats life

Re: VDW ..My take..

Although I've seen many systems put forward that employ aspects of VDW, it was never intended to fit within the constraints of a system.

That's not to detract from your postings though hovis1956, as yet again you've had another cracking day.
