The Derby.. The Oaks..

I took a little punt on 2 for the above races... I backed Rivet for the Derby @16/1 in a e/w double with Wuheida @14/1 for the Oaks..

Rivet is more than likely not going to the 2,000 G's as his trainer stated that he didn't seem to act well round there.. welcome to Epsom so!!  but I like him and he won the R.P Trophy well last year.. and also beat Thunder Snow at Doncaster..

Wuheida is unbeaten and surely will have no problems staying the Oaks trip.. I also backed her €50 e/w @12/1 for English 1,000 G's as a friend of mine was at Huntingdon and the buzz going round was that she worked really, really well..  I hope she does go to the 1,000.. and wins!!

So there is my 2 for the Derby + Oaks.... maybe risky.. but if you risk nothing you gain exactly that...nothing.

Cliffs Of Moher my ante post pick for Derby. Galileo colt who beat Orderofthegarter by 5l in a maiden as a 2yo and Orderofthegarter scooted home at Curragh on opening day last Sunday.

Re: The Derby.. The Oaks..

During the Meydan festival the trainer gave a very upbeat report to the press (Guardian 23 March) on the unbeaten Group 1 winner Wuheida and nominated the Oaks as the target. I took ew 14/1.

Re: The Derby.. The Oaks..

With just 5 weeks to the guineas week.. I am reading now that William Haggas is saying.. "! There is only one 2,000 guineas.. Eh no there is 3.. The English.. Irish. And French.. Well I think those are the ones that matter.. And only the fillies can run in all the classics.. So I guess William is thinking of letting Rivet take his chance.. Pending how he runs at in the Greenham.. Or at the Craven meeting at HQ.. I have backed Rivet at 16/1 €10ew for the 2,000 gs.. As I think he will be clear 2nd fav if he wins at one of those trial days.. I also get the feeling he has developed into a fine 3 year old and is also working quite well.. He got the mile so well last year in the r.p trophy that I feel he could cause a mini upset.. I really hope he does run as I think think the 2,000 is the best trial and you need to stay well to win it.. Heres hoping Rivet bolts in!!!

Derby:
Sir John Lavery 25/1
Auckland 33/1
Venice Beach 33/1

Surprised if I don't win with this trio think they will be Ballydoyle's best chances to win the race

Re: The Derby.. The Oaks..

John Gosden once again seems to have a very good crop of fillies..  Daban very impressive today, get the feeling that was abit of a surprise to connections, so bodes well for Dabyah this weekend, who looks ideally suited to the 7f in the Fred Darling..  But also bodes well for Shutter Speed..  Won well on debut over a mile, doing all best work at the finish, dams only other horse won lto over 1m6f, so every chance Shutter Speed could excel once upped in trip.  Gosden yard won the Oaks a few years back with the top class Taghrooda, looking at the current market for the race, this race could really cut up, a couple injured and wont make the race, and a good few others got no chance of seeing out the trip..   Shutter Speed 25/1 EW Betbright

Re: The Derby.. The Oaks..

I feel Rivet will skip the 2,000 now and go for the Dante instead.. As I can't see him winning the guineas from the front?? So I think York will be next up.. And then the Derby! Might be wrong but I will be looking for a price for the Dante now.. Eminent very good winner and would look better again in 6 weeks time.. He looks like he will stay.. Starting to hot up now.. War Decree poor even though Frankie ruined the race for everybody..

Re: The Derby.. The Oaks..

Really interested to see which one Ballydoyle run in the Chester Vase. Not necessarily because they've won it 7 in the last 10 years but because last year US Army Ranger was their main Derby hope going into Chester - in fact when he won his maiden prior to Chester, Joseph who saddle him up supposedly told Ryan Moore,' this could get beat today and still win the Derby'.  Even when Rule the World won the Vase he was down the pecking order going in to Chester week and it has always been a given that they run their main hope in the Derrinstown (apart from Guineas horses) and last year seemed to be a change in direction. Just makes the Chester runner this year a bit more interesting.

Re: The Derby.. The Oaks..

Hard luck PK on Shutter Speed..  I hope you backed Enable??  in the sense that if Gosden was letting S.Speed go to France then Enable is surely the better of the two could be wrong..  but I went that way..  I had on €5 ew on her @7/1.. but she won very well like Ryan Moore did nothing wrong on his filly...  hindsight is a great science..  maybe they should let Winter run in the Oaks and Rodedendron go for the Irish 1,000??  if , buts , and maybes..  anyhow I am going for Eminent 13/2 with P.P and they are going 4 places..  which to be fair to them is a cracking offer..  I think I said it that Eminent would be a far better horse 6 weeks after the Craven win.. he was just taking out of his comfort zone I think in the 2,000...  plus he really is a fine horse and looks like a Derby horse..

Anyhow I hope you out of everyone here backed Enable as I really feel for ya after Gosden pulling S.Speed out after winning at York... there was a fair bit of rain today but up till that I think the going was good to firm..  as for France they usually are on the soft side so it really don't make sense why he was hoping to find quicker ground over there.. but the long end and the short of it is.. he don't really care as he won with Enable!!

I got a good word for Torecdor.. Jessie Harrington's horse for the  Ascot Gold Cup.. it is 16/1 with nearly all the firms..  and I think her other horse for the Coventry Stks Brother bear @11/2 looks half decent too..  but I guess Arawak @ 6/1 is  very classy looking..

I hope you back a few winners PK..  as the old saying in racing goes you will always get your money back on the ones you lost it on!!  St Nicholas Abbey I had 16/1 A.Post the Derby..  ran 5th I think in the 2,000 G's.. me Ou'l lad say's "  see him he will never race again.. he is finished..  and true enough he was injured!!  but by Jaysus he came back some horse winning 3 Coronation Cups and a Breeder's Cup as well plus over 5,000,000 in the process..  so sorry Da on that one you was well wrong!!  sorry I went of the Derby/Oaks thread..  but I just Foooookin love racing.. I would talk about it all day long.. and night if I could stay awake..  really think Eminent has a massive chance in as open a Derby we have seen in a good while!!   as always best of luck to everyone.

P.S  I forgot to add in there for tomorrow Douglas Macarthur 25/1.. well over priced a full brother to the the filly Was who won the Oaks back in 2009..  both out of Alluring Park who was ( pardon the pun) out of Park Express..  who was the Dam of none other then a Derby winner in New Approach...  so this lad is bred in the purple and is well related to horses that have been there and done it.. can't let him off at that price as I really liked him last year when he won at Leopardstown..  he is a beautiful moving horse this lad.. but when he gets going it will take a fair one to get by him.. he is gonna be getting €5 ew slapped on his back for good measure.. right here right now!!

Re: The Derby.. The Oaks..

Unfortunately Bob i was not on Enable, tbh didnt even have a bet on the race in the end, anti post ticket on Shutter Speed being my only bet..Fingers crossed SS can go on to land the Prix Diane as sitting on 3/1 with ppower.

I'm with you regarding Eminent's chances in the Derby, has the best form in the book, backed it anti post, along with a speculative ew on Glencadem glory..

Good luck!!
